NEW DOCUMENTARY UNCOVERS LAKE ONTARIO’S POLLUTION PROBLEM

‘SHORELINE’ FOLLOWS 430 KM LONG PADDLEBOARD JOURNEY

OSHAWA, ON. – A Greener Future, an Ontario based non-profit organization, announces today it will be pre-releasing their documentary titled Shoreline in an exclusive advanced virtual screening on April 1st, 2021. Shoreline is a 45-minute documentary that follows Rochelle Byrne, founder of A Greener Future, as she embarks on a 430 km stand up paddleboard journey across Lake Ontario to raise awareness about plastic pollution under the looming shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shoreline is an inspiring story highlighting the intersection of recreation and environmental stewardship. Throughout the film, Byrne exemplifies perseverance and determination in both her ambitious endurance challenge and in her fight to protect the lake she loves so much. “I want to feel surprised to see garbage in the lake”, says Byrne. “I want to be able to go to a lake that’s clean and healthy, one that I’m not afraid of swimming in.” In addition to explaining the complex issues surrounding pollution in Lake Ontario, the documentary also offers solutions that can be implemented and actions that can be taken to help restore and protect the Lake into the future.

“Each year, A Greener Future hosts 100 litter cleanups along the Lake Ontario shoreline through a program called Love Your Lake,” said Rochelle Bryne, founder, A Greener Future. “However, in 2020 the pandemic caused the cancellation of all public cleanup events, so instead, we came up with a different way to make an impact. While I paddled, the rest of the crew completed independent litter cleanups. In total, 41,992 pieces of litter were removed from the shores.”
