Katherine Roesler, The Butterfly Effect, 2024, Hard Plastic Pieces, on Wood

Description

"The Butterfly Effect”  is a powerful reminder of the impact our actions have on the environment. Crafted entirely from recycled plastic waste collected during A Greener Future clean-up events, the monarch butterfly embodies the positive change that can be achieved through collective action. Each piece of plastic, transformed into a thing of beauty, represents the potential for a ripple effect – a single act of picking up litter contributes to this.

However, the butterfly's delicate form, composed entirely of plastic, also serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing plastic pollution problem. Its very existence highlights the disconnect between our efforts to clean up and the constant production of plastic waste.

This piece is a call to action. It urges us to acknowledge the progress made while recognizing the need for continued effort. By taking responsibility for our actions today, we can create a lasting positive impact on the future of our planet.

Inspired by the 407 ETR’s continued commitment to environmental well-being and local support of biodiversity and local conservation efforts.

The Butterfly Effect uses recycled plastic collected by 407 ETR employees during One Big Day and other Love Your Lakes initiatives. 407 ETR has been a proud supporter of A Greener Future and the Love Your Lakes program since 2018. The Butterfly Effect embodies the positive change that can be achieved through collective action, urging continued efforts for a healthier planet.
