Press Release: Thousands of microplastics found polluting Lake Ontario during "nurdle hunts"
TORONTO, ON: Participating in the Great Global Nurdle Hunt, A Greener Future coordinated eight shoreline cleanups throughout the month of October to gather data on microplastic pollution in Lake Ontario. With the support of 47 local volunteers, a total of 9,789 nurdles were collected from the Lake Ontario shoreline.

TORONTO, ON – Together with Thurso Surf and Lake Surfistas, A Greener Future hosted a paddleboarding litter cleanup on Humber River in Toronto, Ontario, this past Friday, August 20, 2021. With twenty-five volunteers supporting the cleanup, a total of 2,241 pieces of litter were collected from the water.

TORONTO, ON – The Love Your Lake program, usually a public litter cleanup, but was adapted to suit pandemic conditions, is A Greener Future’s flagship program to clean up the shores of Lake Ontario during the months of May and June. Over 119,000 pieces of litter were picked up during the 265 cleanups between Kingston and Niagara Falls along the shores of Lake Ontario.

OSHAWA, ON – The Butt Blitz, usually an annual one-day event but was adapted to suit pandemic conditions, is the biggest cigarette cleanup in Canada. In honour of Earth Month, 160 volunteers across 25 different cities picked up 825,796 cigarette butts across Canada.

OSHAWA, ON. – A Greener Future, an Ontario-based non-profit organization, is midway through its annual Butt Blitz program focused on the cleanup of littered cigarette butts across Canada. The Butt Blitz has been running each spring since 2015 and has resulted in over 1.5 million cigarette butts being removed from the environment and sent to TerraCycle for recycling.
