TORONTO, ONTARIO —  This Plastic-Free July, A Greener Future, a local non-profit championing environmental protection, is partnering with popular Toronto menswear brand 18 Waits to shed light on the hidden plastic problem in fashion. This partnership aims to educate consumers about the environmental impact of fast fashion and empower them to make conscious choices. They are sharing about the impact of microplastics and fast fashion and partnering for a litter clean up in Toronto.

Toronto, ON – Recently, local MPP Christine Hogarth participated in the making of a video with A Greener Future that highlighted the work the group is doing along the lake’s shoreline thanks to a $10,300 Capital grant the group received last year from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). Funds from the grant were put to work by the environmental group to create Nurdle Nets, which are wooden devices that will collect nurdles – which are pre-production plastic pellets used in the manufacturing of all plastic products, and that are frequently found along the shores of Lake Ontario.

LONDON, ON— A Greener Future is launching a Community Butt Recycling Program, a brand-new initiative, on August 13th, 2022. Known for leading impactful Butt Blitz cleanups where they collect cigarette butt litter, this new program continues these efforts while also preventing cigarette waste from ending up in the environment.

OSHAWA, ON— A Greener Future is grateful to have received a grant of $59,200 over 12 months from the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) Resilient Communities Fund to assist organizations that have suffered due to the impacts of COVID-19.

TORONTO, ON: Participating in the Great Global Nurdle Hunt, A Greener Future coordinated eight shoreline cleanups throughout the month of October to gather data on microplastic pollution in Lake Ontario. With the support of 47 local volunteers, a total of 9,789 nurdles were collected from the Lake Ontario shoreline.

TORONTO, ON – Together with Thurso Surf and Lake Surfistas, A Greener Future hosted a paddleboarding litter cleanup on Humber River in Toronto, Ontario, this past Friday, August 20, 2021. With twenty-five volunteers supporting the cleanup, a total of 2,241 pieces of litter were collected from the water.

TORONTO, ON – A Greener Future is now recruiting volunteers from across Canada to join The Butt Blitz, the largest cigarette cleanup in Canada, to help pick up cigarette butts in their local communities.

TORONTO, ON – The Love Your Lake program, usually a public litter cleanup, but was adapted to suit pandemic conditions, is A Greener Future’s flagship program to clean up the shores of Lake Ontario during the months of May and June. Over 119,000 pieces of litter were picked up during the 265 cleanups between Kingston and Niagara Falls along the shores of Lake Ontario.

OSHAWA, ON – The Butt Blitz, usually an annual one-day event but was adapted to suit pandemic conditions, is the biggest cigarette cleanup in Canada. In honour of Earth Month, 160 volunteers across 25 different cities picked up 825,796 cigarette butts across Canada.

OSHAWA, ON. – A Greener Future, an Ontario-based non-profit organization, is midway through its annual Butt Blitz program focused on the cleanup of littered cigarette butts across Canada. The Butt Blitz has been running each spring since 2015 and has resulted in over 1.5 million cigarette butts being removed from the environment and sent to TerraCycle for recycling.

OSHAWA, ON. – A Greener Future, an Ontario-based non-profit organization, announces today it will be pre-releasing its documentary titled Shoreline in an exclusive advanced virtual screening on April 1st, 2021. Shoreline is a 45-minute documentary that follows Rochelle Byrne, founder of A Greener Future, as she embarks on a 430 km stand-up paddleboard journey across Lake Ontario to raise awareness about plastic pollution under the looming shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic.
